Does Cosmetic Acupuncture Actually Work?

COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE – WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?

September 21st, 2019

It seems like not too long ago, things like Botox, fillers and surgical procedures were only for the rich and famous. These days, everyday people like you and me can easily access these things. You couldn’t walk down the street without bumping into someone who’s had “something” done. Cosmetic procedures are much more accessible now and more in demand than ever before, yet at the same time there is an apprehension of putting something foreign into your body, and possibly doing irreparable damage. While there have been many advances in the cosmetic industry which can achieve stunning results, there are also the horror stories of people who look frozen, expressionless, or have had bad reactions to the chemicals injected into their face, sometimes leaving them permanently disfigured. This has led people to search for a more natural approach.

So What Else is Out There?

Many people have heard of Acupuncture and know that it treats a huge variety of conditions, however, not many people know much about Cosmetic Acupuncture or have even heard of it. You might be surprised to learn that Cosmetic Acupuncture has been practiced for as long as standard Acupuncture (which is thousands of years!), but only in recent times since the demand for natural cosmetic treatment has grown, has it come more into the spotlight. Many centuries ago Cosmetic Acupuncture was used by the emperor’s wives to maintain their beauty and well being, WELL before any modern medicine, topical treatments or surgical procedures. So hey, what’s good enough for ancient Chinese emperor’s wives is good enough for you and me, right??

How Does Cosmetic Acupuncture Work?

Cosmetic Acupuncture uses the insertion of super fine, super smooth needles to cause a “micro trauma” to the local area, which tells the body that there is something that needs repairing. The body responds by sending more blood to the area which brings with it collagen and elastin to repair and rebuild the skin, oxygen and nutrients to nourish and rejuvenate, while also taking away waste product which may have built up over time. All of these actions make Cosmetic Acupuncture fantastic for treating fine lines and wrinkles (crows feet, forehead lines, frown lines etc), pigmentation, dryness, sagging, puffiness, scarring, and acne.

Cosmetic Acupuncture is a completely natural therapy and harnesses your body’s own energy to heal and repair itself, which is brilliant in many respects:

  1. Little to no side effects

Because we’re not injecting any foreign substances into the body, there are no side effects. At worst, you might look a little flushed at first due to the increased blood flow, but that will settle down shortly. Very rarely there can be bruising at the site of needle insertion, but they are generally short lived and easily covered with make up.

  1. No downtime

You can leave your treatment and go straight back to normal life. You skin will continue to repair itself while you carry on with your everyday activities.

  1. Natural beauty

Because your body is repairing itself, the results are always more natural looking. No drastically puffy lips, no permanently raised eyebrows, no frozen expression. No one will ever look at you and be able to tell you’ve had “something” done. You’ll just look like a younger, fresher, healthier version of you!

  1. Pain free!

Because I use the highest quality needles made specifically for facial needling, your treatment is virtually pain free! No cutting, no nasty injections, no harsh chemicals.

  1. Super relaxing

I know, it’s hard to believe that having needles put into your face would be relaxing but one of the main effects acupuncture has on the body is making it completely relax. Once your needles are in, they’re left in for 20 minutes and you are left to chill out and drift off to la la land. It’s bliss.

However, I will say that because this is a natural treatment, the results are more subtle and are not instant. I actually think that’s a good thing because I personally wouldn’t want people staring at me thinking I’ve had work done! But in the interests of being honest and transparent I want to let you know that Cosmetic Acupuncture takes some time to show visible results. Generally it’s recommended to have 6-8 weekly treatments, then a treatment every month or so to maintain the results. This will vary somewhat depending on your individual skin type, age, lifestyle etc. Generally though, for dull, dry skin, you can expect to see a difference in 3-4 weeks. For wrinkles, pigmentation, sagging, puffiness, you would see a difference by 6-8 weeks.

Believe the Hype!

All over social media you’ll see celebrities, articles, blogs… all raving about Cosmetic Acupuncture. Kim Kardashain, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rachael Finch, Elyse Knowles, Joel Creasey, just to name a few, all use Cosmetic Acupuncture and love how it makes them look AND feel. This is not to say we should blindly follow whatever celebrities do, but I figure they have the means to access the very best in cosmetic treatment, so if they think Cosmetic Acupuncture is the way to go, it certainly gives it a lot of credibility.
